Look up and see the blue sky! Since the beginning of this year, the number of days with good air quality in Beijing has exceeded 9 percent!

In the first quarter of 2024, what is the air quality in Beijing? Chen Tian, director of the Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment,

said: “Since the beginning of this year, our air quality has maintained an overall improvement trend. As of March 24, the average PM2.5

concentration in Beijing was 38 micrograms per cubic meter, down 19.1% year-on-year. There were 76 days of good days, an increase of 14

days year-on-year, accounting for 90.5%, which should be said to have achieved a ‘good start’ for the improvement of atmospheric environment quality! ”

This year, Beijing will continue to implement the Green Beijing strategy and enhance the “gold content” of development with the

“green content” of ecology. Actively promote new energy vehicles, and reduce fuel consumption by promoting “oil-to-electricity” and

“oil-to-hydrogen” for motor vehicles, so as to achieve a clean and low-carbon energy transition. Promote the green upgrading of

enterprises in key industries, and focus on promoting the source substitution of products containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Chen Tian, director of the Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment, said: “Strengthen dust control, especially carry out the

100-day dust campaign, summarize and consolidate the linkage of the “three supervision” departments of supervision, monitoring

and supervision, continue to carry out autumn and winter air pollution actions, and carry out regional joint law enforcement to jointly

deal with heavy pollution weather.” ”

Volatile organic compounds are the common precursors of PM2.5 and ozone, which is the object of key governance and a regulatory problem.

For example, when the management department finds that there are regular abnormally high values of VOCs (volatile organic compounds)

in a certain area according to the air quality analysis, the monitoring department is dispatched to carry out VOCs (volatile organic compounds)

navigation and analysis, and accurately lock the target range, and then the law enforcement department will conduct on-site investigation

to find and catch the abnormal problems. After this kind of supervision and rectification, the high value of VOCs (volatile organic compounds)

in the region will be significantly improved.

As one of the first seven pilot carbon markets in China, the Beijing pilot carbon market has been running smoothly for 10 years since its

opening in 2013, covering nearly 1,300 units and accounting for more than half of Beijing’s total carbon emissions. In 2023, Beijing

ranked first among 81 low-carbon pilot cities in the national low-carbon pilot city construction assessment, and was selected as

excellent, with remarkable results in low-carbon development. This year, we will continue to improve the carbon emission trading system.

Chen Tian, director of the Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment, said: “We will continue to carry out carbon inclusive

projects such as low-carbon travel and carbon emission reduction of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and strengthen low-carbon pilot

demonstrations, focus on new green and low-carbon business formats, new kinetic energy, new models, and the development of

new quality productivity, and vigorously develop renewable energy, especially to accelerate the promotion of new energy vehicles.” ”
